Pen Story_Blue

Cultures vary from place to place - therefore so do the people. Language is synonymous with culture and is perhaps our foremost tool of communication. Cultures often have different languages to one another. Translation will not always carry meaning from one language to another. The translation can add meaning or equally subtract from the true, original, acoustic image of the cabron. This is especially true when the translatior is an online translation programme which tends to Babble.

Viewing email messages as html can also produce further errors in translations...

The beauty of both places

These images are based on something a girl kept commenting on when I was in South Africa. It is such an amazingly beautiful country, as we spent our time there she kept saying 'we don't have things like this back home...' She has spent all of her life in England and was unaware of the beauty that we have in this country. These simple images are comparing photos I have taken both countries. The left image is from South Africa and the right is the UK. They are so similar and just as beautiful. I'm showing the beauty of both places.

Why are we confusing our cultures?

These are some advertisements I found in Indian magazines. I have used them as all the beauty ads seem to have 'white' people in them, or be skin whitening products!
When in South Africa and India, I found it interesting to tell people that in the UK people tan themselves to look darker because of trend, and over there they want to look whiter! Cultures are all so interesting, why do we all want to look the same?!?

Here is an advertisement which folds out on a double spread and is a typical Indian spices advert for Indian cooking. On the outside is an ad for skin whitening!!! Why are we confusing our cultures?

Elephants

This is meant more as a joke, which I'm happy to say diffused some tensions when it was said — 'India must be pretty cool as all the inhabitants get to ride around on elephants'.

Questions

I was working a the White Cube, with a friend of a friend who is a very nice girl. When talking about her home country, she happened to ask how long I had lived in England for. My response was, 'well my whole life'.

Alcoholic

Once I was spotted with a pint by a classmate Rob on Foundation who said 'You're drinking? I thought you were Muslim'. I'm not Muslim. I do drink. Does it matter?!
