Cultural Misconceptions

All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie

Not a drop to drink!

This is a small section of an infinitely expanding pattern influenced by Islamic rug decoration. It’s mostly created using the detailing on rupee notes and the paid stamp marks on the receipts after paying a bill. The other symbols within the pattern are of cricket, Indian Idol and some of the major corporate brands.

I spent a month in India last year traveling with a friend. During this time, the worldwide news TV channels presented interviews and promotions of the Indian Idol pop contest in between the cricket updates almost continuously. It was as though nothing more important was happening in the world. When I compared this to what I was seeing on the streets, I couldn’t help but feel that priorities had been misplaced somewhere.
